Technical Assistance and Support for Self-Determination Initiatives
The Georgia Department of Education’s Division for Special Education Services and Supports has been supportive of districts and partnering agencies to provide opportunities for students to participate in initiatives that promote self-determination which align with the Georgia’s Systems of Continuous Improvement process to cultivate the whole child and improve graduation rates for all students. The GaDOE is committed to supporting the scaling up of self-determination initiatives across the state including student-led IEPs, ASPIRE and the Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction (SDLMI).
This support will begin with in-depth training in the use of the SDLMI and the Self-Determination Inventory. Districts are encouraged to register for the SDLMI and SDI trainings. Training will consist of two one-hour webinars and one face to face training. Face to face trainings will be held at the Georgia Department of Education, West Tower Training Rooms A, B, & C.; 8:30am-3:00pm. Registrants for the face to face training will receive the links for the two webinars.

Self-Determination Community of Practice
The Georgia Department of Education, Division for Special Education Services and Student Supports will facilitate a Self-Determination Community of Practice. The purpose of the Community of Practice is to provide support, guidance, resources and recommendations for implementation of the Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction (SDLMI), the Self-Determination Inventory (SDI) and the embedding of self-determination across content areas and the collaborative initiative between the GaDOE and the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA). This support includes the implementation of ASPIRE, other student-led IEP initiatives and self-determination curricular.
Any school administrator, teacher, support staff or GVRA personnel utilizing the SDLMI, SDI, ASPIRE or student-led IEPs is advised to participate. Session will take place on the last Monday of the designated months from 3:00pm-4:00pm. The link below will register participants for the seven sessions.
